2. Data We Process

• Account data such as email address, display name, and authentication provider
• Trip data such as trip name, start and end time, distance, duration, average speed, top speed, estimated fuel usage, and cost
• Route and location points collected while a trip is actively being recorded
• Vehicle profile data such as car name, fuel consumption, and fuel price
• Diagnostic and app-stability events needed to improve reliability
• Local settings such as unit preference and onboarding state

3. How We Use the Data

• To create and manage your account
• To record, save, and display trips and route history
• To calculate distance, duration, speed, fuel usage, cost, and dashboard statistics
• To sync your account data across devices when you sign in
• To keep the app stable, investigate failures, and provide support
• To honor deletion requests made in the app or by email

4. Legal Bases

• We process account, trip, and vehicle data as needed to provide the app and its core features to you.
• We rely on your permission for location access, including background location if you choose to allow it.
• We may process limited diagnostic data based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app secure, stable, and supportable.

5. Location and Background Recording

SteerStats uses location only for trip recording and route display. The app requests foreground location to start a trip.

If you allow background location, SteerStats uses it only while you have actively started a trip and recording is still in progress. Background location is not intended for advertising, profiling, or passive tracking when no trip is being recorded.

6. Guest Mode and On-Device Storage

If you use SteerStats as a guest, your trips, active trip snapshot, and vehicle profile are stored on your device in secure local storage. Guest data stays on that device until you delete it, uninstall the app, or sign in and choose to keep using your account.

When you sign in, SteerStats can migrate your guest trips and car data into your account so they are backed up and available across devices.

7. Service Providers

SteerStats uses Supabase to provide authentication, database storage, and related app infrastructure. These services process account and trip data on our behalf so the app can function.

Apple and Google may also process authentication data when you choose Sign in with Apple or Google.

We expect service providers and third parties that receive personal data on our behalf to provide the same or an equivalent level of protection for that data as described in this policy and required by applicable law.

8. Retention

• Signed-in account data and trip history are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
• Guest data remains on your device until it is removed, overwritten by app limits, or the app is uninstalled.
• Diagnostic records are kept only as long as needed to review app issues and improve reliability.

9. Your Choices and Rights

• You can edit or delete trips inside the app.
• You can change or remove vehicle data inside the app.
• You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.
• You can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.
• You can delete your account directly inside the app, which removes your profile and trip history from the service.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example if the app changes, the law changes, or our service providers change. The current version will always be available on this page.
